Rethinking refugees: from passive 'beneficiaries' to creative change-makers.
Limited Capacity seats available

Rethinking refugees:
from passive beneficiaries to creative change-makers

This panel offers different narratives on refugees. While acknowledging the suffering and daily challenges faced by refugees, stories of collective and individual grief are not the whole story.
In her TEDX talk, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie cautioned us on the Danger of a Single Story.
“The single story creates stereotypes,” Adichie says, “and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete.” If we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding.

The speakers on this panel will disrupt the single story of refugees. Instead, they will share empowering narratives and practices of hope, perseverance,  and self-determination. Inside the word "emergency" is "emerge"; from an emergency new things come forth.

LIVING WELL ~ 7SS Stage 1: Build a team around your ideal future!
Limited Capacity seats available

LIVING WELL: From the inside out - Session #1/7

7 Stages to Sustainabilty, (7SS) Stage 1: Build a team around your ideal future.
Focus:  What’s calling us to action? Who is here? What do we believe it takes to live well? What does it mean to be an effective leader?

Join Co-Chairs Rone de Beauvoir and Reem Ibrahim in co-creating a full-bodied approach to evolve food, water, health and lifestyles.

BEING HERE NOW: WHAT MOVES US?
The goal of the Living Well Breakout #1 is to discover who is here and why -- so that we can co-create the space for connection, inspiration, and collaboration. We will hear from phenomenal movement leaders who will talk about what is effective leadership and how we can cultivate it. Through a series of facilitated exercises, we will indulge ourselves in the juiciness of getting to know each other, and identifying what it is that moves us towards action and evolution of food, health, and lifestyles - from the personal to the planetary.

INTERSECTION OVERVIEW:
What does it take for us to live well?  What does it take to be holistically healthy? With stress and anxiety related disorders, obesity and hypertension on the rise in both developed and developing countries, we are in need of a holistic health intervention - one that covers everything from sourcing real food to cultivating health and vitality to creating empowered lifestyles – for all people.
Cultivating holistic health – mental, physical, emotional and spiritual - is about understanding the impact we have on our health and the health of others around us - plants, animals and our communities and combining ancient methods and new technology to creating a culture that invests in and supports a holistic way of being and living - in body, mind and spirit.

GOAL FOR PARTICIPANTS
Our overall goal for this Impact Stream is to ignite collaborations between participants. These could look like a co-producing an event, sharing resources like email lists, contacts, funding opportunities, or forming alliances and working together on existing movements. In each of the breakouts, we have reserved time for connection between participants. We also have identified mentors in our track who can serve in the "wisdom circle" and reflect back to the group what is emergent and prescient to clear blocks and move towards aligned action, however that looks like for this group.

  • Dr. Zainab Salbi, "A square peg in a round hole: education in the 21st century"
Small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it. It seems this is the case which education worldwide is facing. Taking into account the rapid development of technology, the decline of economic growth and the increase of students enrollment in schools, many educators feel their mission is similar to squeezing a square peg in a round hole. In this session, we will discuss the four “I”s forming the square and the “C” representing the round hole.

"In a contemporary cultural environment where life is riddled with busyness, stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, trauma, distrust etc etc., people are pushed the edge, searching for relief in even the smallest of ways. Individuals are engaging with ordinary products and experiences in a new way - searching for benefits beyond simply the physical and emotional, but into the healing realms of the mental & spiritual. For example, a car is no long simply needed to get from point A to B, but also be a sanctuary for the mind and soul during transit, enhancing rest, peace, respite and calm."
Further, eMobilznation founder, Anas, will say a bit out:
"With technology, we live in exciting times: almost every day, a new digital development seems to appear – mostly to make our lives easier and more convenient.
Digital applications have the potential to transform healthcare and increase its quality and efficiency. They can allow people to adapt a disease or health condition they may have to their life - not adapt their life to their condition.
The global mHealth market is growing rapidly and is expected to expand to nearly $21.5 billion by 2018. It can create jobs and economic growth by combining the ICT, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and healthcare sectors."
