HRH Princess Dana Firas is a global advocate for heritage protection and preservation as a foundation for development, responsible tourism, political identity and participation.

Princess Dana currently serves as President of the Petra National Trust, Jordan’s oldest national nongovernmental organization in the field of heritage protection and preservation. Established in 1989, PNT seeks to preserve and protect the natural, cultural and socio-economic heritage of the ancient Nabataean city in southern Jordan and its surrounding region. Since 2008, Princess Dana has chaired the Board of the Petra National Foundation (PNF), a US-based 501-c3 organization working to promote awareness of the world heritage values of Petra and to support projects and programs that protect and preserve the site.

Since the early 1990s, Princess Dana has worked to promote cultural heritage preservation, education and sustainable development in various capacities in the three sectors: private, public and civil society, both in Jordan and in the United States. She worked in the office of H.M. Queen Noor on projects that promote sustainable development, peace and human rights. She participated in the establishment of a number of non-governmental organizations, locally and internationally, to promote heritage preservation and environmental protection. In 2016 she joined the Board of the Fulbright Commission in Jordan.

In 2003, Princess Dana co-authored an article entitled “From the Environment and Human Security to Sustainable Security and Development” in the Journal of Human Development. In 2006, she authored an article for the 2007 State of the World Report and participated in the launch of the report in Washington DC. In 2012, she contributed to a publication entitled “Tourism and Archeological Heritage Management at Petra: Driver to Development or Destruction.”

Princess Dana holds a BA degree from Boston University in economics and international relations. She also holds an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government focused on sustainable development and environmental policy, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. She is married to Prince Firas bin Raad and has two daughters, Safa (born 2001) and Haya (born 2003), and one son, Hashem (born 2010).

مع انفتاح العالم وازدياد مخاطر اكتساح العولمة للخصوصيات الثقافية للأمم والشعوب وتَعرُّض الهويات لخطر التلاشي ، يأتي إيماني بأهمية مفهوم التراث الثقافي وضرورة التشبث به ، لأن تراث الأمم هو ركيزة أساسية من ركائز هويتها الثقافية، والحفاظ عليه هو إغناء للثقافة والهوية الإنسانية كلها.

تشغل الأميرة دانا حالياً منصب رئيسة جمعية البتراء الوطنية ، وهي أقدم منظمة وطنية غير حكومية في الأردن في مجال حماية التراث والحفاظ عليه. تأسست في عام 1989 ، وتسعى المنظمة للحفاظ على وحماية التراث الطبيعي ,والثقافي, والاجتماعي, والاقتصادي للمدينة النبطية القديمة في جنوب الأردن والمنطقة المحيطة بها. منذ عام 2008، ترأست الأميرة دانا مجلس إدارة مؤسسة البتراء الوطنية (PNF) ، وهي مؤسسة مقرها الولايات المتحدة مقرها تعمل على  تعزيز الوعي بقيم التراث العالمي في البتراء ودعم المشاريع والبرامج التي تحمي الموقع وتحافظ عليه.

منذ أوائل التسعينات ، عملت الأميرة دانا على تعزيز الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي والتعليم والتنمية المستدامة في مختلف المجالات في القطاعات الثلاثة: الخاصة والعامة والمجتمع المدني ، في كل من الأردن والولايات المتحدة. عملت في مكتب سعادة الملكة نور على المشاريع التي تعزز التنمية المستدامة والسلام وحقوق الإنسان.  شاركت في تأسيس عدد من المنظمات غير الحكومية ، محليا ودوليا ، لتعزيز الحفاظ على التراث وحماية البيئة. في عام 2016 انضمت إلى مجلس هيئة فولبرايت في الأردن.

في عام 2003 ، شاركت الأميرة دانا في كتابة مقال بعنوان "من البيئة والأمن البشري إلى الأمن والتنمية المستدامة" في مجلة التنمية البشرية. في عام 2006 ، قامت بتأليف مقالة عن تقرير حالة العالم لعام 2007 وشاركت في إطلاق التقرير في واشنطن العاصمة. في عام 2012 ، ساهمت في منشور بعنوان "السياحة وإدارة التراث الأثري في البتراء: سائق للتنمية أو التدمير".

تحمل الأميرة دانا شهادة البكالوريوس من جامعة بوسطن في الاقتصاد والعلاقات الدولية. وهي حاصلة أيضًا على درجة الماجستير في دراسات التنمية من كلية لندن للاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية و MPA من كلية كينيدي للعلوم الحكومية بجامعة هارفارد ركزت على التنمية المستدامة والسياسة البيئية ، حيث كانت طالبة في برنامج فولبرايت. متزوجة من الأمير فراس بن رعد ولها ابنتان ، صفاء (مواليد 2001) وهايا (مواليد 2003) ، وابن واحد ، هاشم (من مواليد 2010).
